Sports Notes
Oct. 29th, 2006 07:16 am- Red Auerbach, the legendary coach and general manager of the great Boston Celtics teams of the 1960s, has died at the age of 89. I send condolences to his family, to his friends, to Fans of the Celtics, and to the generations of basketball players he influenced directly and indirectly.
- Congrats to the St. Louis Cardinals on their World Series victory. I think some purists are not thrilled that a team with 83 wins won the title, but we are never going back to the old days, when the two best teams are the only ones in the playoffs. As it's been said, once you get to the playoffs, it's a crap shoot. The Cards got hot at the right moment. They did what they needed to. And now they are the champs.
But wait till next year, when the Mets rekindle the rivalry from the 80s and get even!!
