A very good week. Let's get to it...
52, Week Twenty-Three - First off, it's time to cue up "Mad Scientists United" from Tom Smith's album "The Laste Hero on Earth" as we follow Doc Magnus to an mysterious island paradise. There he finds TO Morrow and the world's other great mad scientists waiting. They have unlimited resources, and Magnus is the latest (in his case unwilling) recruit. Look for Dr. Sivana and Ira Quimby, as well as some new mad scientists.
Across the world, Renee and Charlie have found Intergang's lair, where Isis' brother is not a slave but part of a scheme to brainwash new young recruits. (Bizarre? Yes, but very much in keeping with the methods of Intergang's original patron, Darkseid.) Things get hairy, Black Adam and Isis show up, and the brother is rescued but crippled beyond Isis' powers to heal him. Adam, however, has an idea, and in a deliberate echo of the Marvel Family, the brother says Adam's name. The Black Adam Family now larger, Isis is ecstatic and decides that they should visit China.
The first few pages with Morrow and Magnus are priceless. The rest are merely very good. The changes to Black Adam continue in a believable way, the plot thickens. But Morrow once again steals the show.
Fables 54 - Hansel arrives in New York, welcomed by the Fables but unwanted. We learn Hansel's dark history, even as Beast makes plans to be ready for anything. Meanwhile, the nosy ex-reporter from the end of "Wooden Soldiers" maintains his watch on Fabletown.
This month, we get a full complement of story, as much happens and takes its time. Which is waht I expect. Another spelndid issue.
The Escapists 4 - While Max remains in denial about Case, the man from Omnicorp makes his moves. Some of the plot twists regarding Omnicorp are a bit by-the-book, but the execution is great, as is the character play and the art. Not much more to add other than, Read This Book!
