So my favorite show is back, for six weeks.
This wasn't a perfect episode, mainly because it only focused on Jack, Kate and Sawyer, and because we got another flashJack. In the present, he's interesting enough but not a great character, who works because of how he interacts with everyone else. In the past, he's a jerk, which we sorta knew already.
Otherwise, this did the job it needed to. We pick up from where we left off, we learn a bit more about the Others (without really learning anything), and we meet one of the new regulars, an Other named Juliet. We even learn that not-Henry is called Ben. (I'll take high odds that's not his name, either). We see Sawyer in a cage - it's almost his natural habitat - Kate in a dress, Jack in a fishtank, and Ben clearly in command of the situation.
Presumably, this is setting up the rest of the short arc, which will no doubt focus on the Others as they try to break and control and absorb Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Could be gripping.
And of course, we all are wondering just what Stephen King book Juliet was reading in the strange "Others live in a village on the island" teaser. The Stand? Carrie? Any other guesses? Is it significant, or merely a shout-out to a writer who is both influence and fan?
Next week, we go back to the rest of the cast, which should be just as welcome as the return is this sometimes infuriating but never boring show.

I was hoping for The Gunslinger or something Dark Tower, personally.

(Jack's final line "Is she happy" actually made me tear up. And I liked Sawyer vs. the cage, but that should be of no shock to anyone. Sawyer: dumber than bears. Hee.)
