TV Thoughts
Sep. 18th, 2006 12:10 pmThe new TV season has begun, and aside from Heroes, I am not particularly excited by anything. How telling is it that I'm looking forward more to watching the revamped reruns of the original Star Trek than new arrivals from the networks? I have to say, the notion of commiting to another serial drama is unappetizing. As much as I love Lost, it's a huge effort to watch, and almost every show that sounds even halfway interesting to me requires the same effort. I wonder, are these shows being made with DVDs in mind as much as weekly viewers? I can much more easily see myself getting the DVDs for something I missed and then watching a whole season in days.
Speaking of Trek (Revamped), New Yorkers can catch it on the local NBC affilaite. At 3:05 am bwtween Sunday night and Monday morning! 40 years later, and Trek still gets no respect from NBC. That said, the next episode they are showing is "Devil in the Dark." If I have to pick one episode that defines original Trek at its best, it would be that one. Why do I have the feeling that I will be watching the reruns as fanatically as I did twenty years ago?
