At the moment, our living room air conditioner is on the fritz. (This is the third year in a row that something cold has done something wrong right before the Jewish fast day of Tisha B'Av, BTW - last year, the bedroom A/C began to drip inside, and two years ago the fridge in our old apartment died.) There is a good chance that it merely needs to have its motherboard rebooted. I won't know till get home and try.

If not, however, we might need a new one. I am not happy that this might be the case (especially given the weather and the timing right before a fast day). But this being the case, I am going to ask for recommendations for a large-size A/C that can cool a good chunk of a small apartment. We currently have an electronic Freidrich, which has been reliable though its filter is a pain to clean. If the motherboard is really at fault, though, I am not sure I want another electronic A/C. I might not have a choice, given the state of the art.

Any thoughts?

My Mom gets her Friedrich A/C units delivered and installed by the store on Metropolitan Ave. She's had good experience with them.
