Spoilers? Yup.

52, Week 9 - The first really bland issue of the series spends half its pages with a lame fight between Steel - now with a steel skin - and his newly empowered niece. Neither acts wisely. Steel has not been treated well by the writers the last two weeks. And yet he also gets to be the focus. That doesn't work for me.

The rest of the issue has the Space Trio escape Devilance the Pursuer (yes, Kirby fans, he's back. Yes, non-Kirbyians, that is his name); and has Renee meet The Question, without his mask, in a lesbian bar (because he's jsut that kinda jerk). The Renee-Question story has been the best part of 52, and it looks like it's getting to the next phase.

Without Renee and No-Face, though, this would be a dud.

Detective Comics 821 - The good news is that Paul Dini delivers what promised to readers: a single-issue mystery story. The not-so-good news is that the plot is just OK. A good start, but I think Dini can do better. The script is pretty good, but the narration (by Batman) seems off. The art by JH Williams is great, with the exception of how he draws Bruce Wayne. Like I say, a good start, but I was something more susbstantial. I wonder if this will be the Batman version of Morrison's All Star Superman, where the stories are great but nothing ever happens to advance the character play. We will see.
