OK, now that it's out, I feel that I can post about it, a month after seeing the preview.
Spoiler-free summary: A really good film, though I have no idea if non-fans of the show will get everything. Great script, good acting, good pacing. A strong movie debut for Joss.
And now some quick thoughts with limited spoilers. Joss is a bastard.
Jewish weddings in space with lovebots are funny. And Mr. Universe rocks!
The biggest laughs in this theater went to Kaylee.
The whole theater gasped when the big shock death happens. And knowing it was coming, that didn't make it any easier.
The first time we saw it, I liked it. The second time, I loved it. Once you know what to expect, it's clear that Joss has a vast amount of control over the story.
We bought the scriptbook for the film, and there is alot that Joss wrote that didn't make it to the final version. Some of it would have been great to see. Some of it, while informational, was wisely cut. But I bet a lot of it will be in the DVD version.
I wanted much more Shepherd Book. At first I wanted more Inara but I think what we see works well.
The music was great.
If and when I have the time, I might write a longer piece or two about certain things. But for now, I revel in this film.
