RIP Marlon Brando

sdelmonteMarlon Brando, in the opinion of many the finest actor of his genration, has died at the age of 80.

If you know films, you know Brando's work, legendary performances in "On the Waterfront" and "Streetcar Named Desire" and "The Godfather" and so on. And while to a large degree his later films veered toward self-parody (sometimes on purpose as in the enjoyable film, "The Freshman"), his body of work clearly stands out. As do the sheer number of quotable lines from his films.
And of course, genre fans remember his "starring" role in the first Superman film. I don't know if he was any Silver Age Superman fan's choice to be Jor-El, but his presence in the film (along with that of Gene Hackman) gave it a degree of respectability and dignity.
Condolences to his family, which seems to have suffered far too much, and to his many, many fans.

Date: Jul. 2nd, 2004 10:55 am (UTC)Beyond that, I subscribe to a RSS called Blog of Death, which usually posts obits for interesting but obscure people, and usually only after a few days have passed. Today, its editor made an exception.
But no, AFAIK, my productivity doesn't suffer much. Before the Internet, I would work till I got bored, but had no remedy for the boredom.
