And thus Purim, one of my favorite days of the year, arrives. That it arrives on the heels of a week of fete-ing (is this a word) S&G after their nuptials made getting into the spirit both easier and harder. Easy to be happy, but hard to shift the mode of happiness.

Things of note:

- Purim is noted for costumes, but as Shabbos led into Purim, the costumes were limited last night. (You can't wear costumes on Shabbos as it is the wrong spirit for the day.) But I did see Jar Jar, the guy with spikey yellow hair from Dragonball Z, Darth Vader, two hippies, and a pirate. I figure if I trolled the streets for costumes, I'd have seen more.

- I now own a megillah. (For thos not in the know, the tradition is to read the Book of Esther on Purim, and to read it from a parchment, much like the Torah is written.) My mother bought one for the shul, and bought a second for my birthday and Hanukkah. It's so very cool to read from a scroll, like the ancients did. It's also cool to own something like that. It's not as sacred as the Torah, nor as exacting to produce, but it comes as close as I'm likely to get.

- For the day, I've been wearing my Superman tie and my Robin Hood/Green Arrow hat. Any day when I can dress in such a manner is a good one. Kind of wish I had worn the hat to the wedding last week.

More details about the rest of the holiday if events warrant.

In the meantime, Happy Purim everyone.
