Today, the private spacecraft firm SpaceX conducted its first test of the Falcon 9 rocket. Initial reports tell us it was a rousing success.
This is, at the very least, a big step forward for the next era in spaceflight. If things go well, the Falcon 9 will take unmanned cargo pods to the space station in the next couple of years. If they go very well, we could be on our way to seeing America's next manned spaceship. It's still a long time till that will happen, but after seeing the space program stagnant a bit, any step forward is very welcome.
Congrats to Elon Musk and everyone at SpaceX. Can't wait to see what comes next.
