So Twitter, as you may have seen, has been suffering all day from a Denial of Service attack. And LJ and Facebook were knocked down, too, though not as badly.

Interesting that LJ actually mattered to anyone, given that it's often treated by the technorati as being a backwater. Interesting that MySpace wasn't attacked. Or that if it was, no one cares.

What happened? Probably just the usual array of hackers. But that's not as much fun as a conspiracy (which I suggest as a JOKE): It's widely known that the Russian language branch of LJ has been a thorn in the side of the Putin regime. And we all know how much Twitter served the voice of the people when the Iranian government stole the election and suppressed dissent. Beyond that, it's widely suspected that hackers in the employ of North Korea attacked a large number of American and South Korean sites last month. So clearly, the governments of Iran and Russia, using agents of North Korea, conspired to bring down the social media sites they perceive as enemies.

And they brought down Facebook because they were jealous of how many people have friended Obama's page.
