Also known as "We Flew a Bus to Dubai for THIS?"...

This was, in pretty much every way, a pedestrian episode, not in need of fifteen extra minutes, with a bland story and one of the worst guest stars of the RTD Era. Pretty Michelle Ryan may be, but she has no acting talent - no wonder her Bionic Woman remake bombed. And that part, playing a rather unlikeable character, needed a good actor to make it at all tolerable. I was annoyed with her from start to end, and unhappy that the story tried hard to make us treat her irresponsible thrill seeking and crimes like a lark.

Beyond that, there was nothing we haven't seen before, and better. The bulk of the characters were from stock casting, and while the fanboy scientist was well acted, he was not exactly fun. And there was that rather odd decision by the BBC to fly the cast and crew (and a bus) to Dubai for the desert scenes. There was so little actually done with that desert that I can't see why they just didn't use a soundstage and CGI. Oh, that they could have lavished that sort of attention to the story instead of the scenery.

There were a few cool moments, like a flying bus, and the return of the UNIT commander we met in Donna's alternate timeline in "Turn Left". But given that we have so little of Ten left, this should have been something better than usual, and it wasn't even the usual. Only David Tennant's always welcome presence makes this worth watching.

Three to go with Ten, and I can only hope that "The Waters of Mars" and the big finale are better.

Oh, and I really miss Donna.
