Two weeks, six comics, short summaries. Spoilers.

All Star Superman 10 - Like I said, WOW. Supes prepares for his impeding death, but still fights the neverending battle. A marvelous, touching and vital comic that reminds me of why I love Superman and why I think he's still relevant.

The Spirit 15 - A beauty show, jewels thieves, and P'Gell. And not much else. The dark, adult edge Darwyn Cooke used to update the Spirit without changing the essentials is gone, replaced with a lighthearted but rather dated approach. It's not a bad comic, and upbeat is better than dour, but there's little here worth recommending. Sorry but I think i am done with it.

Buffy 13 - Xander talks to Dracula, Buffy girds for action, and the bad guys' plans for the scythe are revealed. A fun issue but the whole Xander-Drac thing is played for laffs and comes across as far too silly. I didn't like the BuffyVerse Drac then, and I don't like him now. Still, even a somewhat weak issue of this comic is better than most. And the twist at the end doesn't bode well at all.

Detective Comics 843 - Batman and Zatanna team to find out who's trying to sabotage a new mobster-owned nightclub, even as Zee flirts with Bruce, even as the new Ventriliquist strikes, her identity revealed. The main plot is interesting but this issue is all about Zee and Bruce, about their friendship, about whether it could go further. Dini writes a great Zee, as always, and I am glad he gets to use her in a book that is slowly gaining a real cast to go with a strong version of Batman.

Angel: After the Fall 6 - The big story is put on hold, and we get three short tales showing what happened to Spike, Connor and Lorne the night LA went to Hell. The first two are very good, the third a bit silly (with oddly cartoonish art by John Byrne). I would rather have continued with the main story, but that these glimpses back are so good is a good sign.

Gargoyles 8 - The tale of Gargs and Macbeth in London resumes, with Macbeth and Arthur bonding, with Hudson and Lex meeting the English clan, with more tales of the Stone of Destiny, with battle galore, and with a great script and perfect art. Oh, and a gargoyle named Constance. That kinda messed with my head a bit. Lots to love here, again. Greg has really gotten into the groove.
