- Our long National Football League nightmare is over. There will be pro football this year. Part of me wanted to see it cancelled, just to see what all my fellow fans did for fun instead. In my dream world, they all rediscover baseball. In the real world, it's going to be business as usual, after a fashion.

- Saw Captain America today. Fun, with a pretty good cast and a very effective period-piece vibe. But it could have been better, and it tries to hard to say "look, part of the Marvel franchise." Tommy Lee Jones steals a lot of the film, and Chris Evans is a really effective Steve Rogers. Let's hope that the long-awaited Avengers Whedon film will use him and the rest of cast effectively.

The nods to Marvel continuity are not a big deal, but some of them are really well done.

- Some interesting trailers. Why, if Brad Bird wants to go from animation to live action, is he starting with MI:4? He deserves better. And just how big a Tintin fan is Spielberg to be directing that adaptation? The Amazing Spider-Man trailer was, well, amazing. But if we don't have a good deal of Spider-PoV in the film, I will be disappointed.
