My Two Cents
Jun. 25th, 2011 10:22 pmI am always proud to be from the City of New York. It's rare that I can feel the same pride to be from the State of New York. We have had a dysfunctional, sometimes backwards, government in Albany for a very long time. To see it do something right is amazing.
Aside from the celebration of the moment, I am actually hopeful that Gov. Cuomo the Second can be as effective as his father (who was and is a political hero of mine). Andrew Cuomo took something of a risk in making equal marriage rights a priority. But he never wavered. And now history has been made for all of my state's citizens.
Kudos to Cuomo, to the four Republicans with the backbone to buck their party and risk their seats, and to everyone who made this happen. And best of luck to those who will be tying the knots in the months and years to come. I hope all of you will be happy as Batya and I are.
