Steinbrenner
Jul. 13th, 2010 06:56 pmI am sure that you have heard of the death of Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. He was a larger than life figure and a legend, and I offer condolences to his family, friends and fans.
But after a day of increasingly awestruck coverage, I have to note this: he is why I am a Mets fan. I was an Yankees fan for a time but left when he fired Yogi Berra as manager two weeks into the season. That was enough. I appreciate all that he did to make sure his teams won, but in the end, I think I would rather not approach life that way. Even if it means casting my lot with the "losers."
