Random Elements from Duckon
Jun. 22nd, 2010 07:47 pm- Saw The Three Doctors in its entirety for the first time. Once you get past how little sense it makes, it is a total hoot. Pertwee and Troughton seem to be having a lot of fun, and it carries the show a long way. I can also see bits of both Two and Three in the more recent Doctors. Now I need to see more of Two, assuming there is much out there.
- I heard a term I want to help spread: to be Thundercatted. The context was a man noting his SO loved the 1970s remake of King Kong as a kid and was shocked to see just how bad it really was when she saw it as an adult. He said that she had been Thundercatted. Thundercats being the prime example of something that is really lame but that you thought was cool when you were young. I like this term. Feel free to use it and share it.
- Sunday's filk produced many high points. Including Tom Smith singing the phone book. And doing it well. All we needed was Dick Button and Dot Warner provided commentary. (The rest of Mr Smith's concert was awesome, including a rare performance of Starlight and Saxophones with a real sax, played by a talented lady named Hope.)
- Another highlight was hearing Dandelion Wine perform The Witch of the Westmereland, which is always a treat. This was followed by Talis Kimberly debuting a song that shows the events from the witch's PoV.
- Kudos to Duckon security for helping evacuate the hotel Saturday night during fire alarm 1.
- I didn't get to talk to many filkers over the weekend, but when I did, I felt like I was home, like always. I don't know when I will see you again, as I will have to miss OVFF due to Houdini, but it was good to see you, if briefly.
- Duckon will never be on my list of regular cons. It's too far away for that. But if I had the money and time, I would be there again and again. Thanks to everyone there for making it happen, especially the filk track.
