Then: 1987. The Giants win the Super Bowl. Ed Koch, aware that the Giants don't play in the city and state of New York, tells them that there will not be a victory parade for a team that plays in New Jersey. I suspect that many New Yorkers agree. I suspect many in New Jersey, who want to see the Giants and Jets rename themselves to match their home state, also agreed.

Now: 2010. The Jets are in the conference championship. There is a pep rally in Times Square for the team. The mayor of the city of New York and the governor of the state of New York are there. No one seems to remember where the Jets play, any more than anyone did after the Giants won the Super Bowl two years ago.

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge Giants fan and also a Jets fan. I want both teams to win. But I am with Ed Koch on the matter. Neither team plays in the city, or even the state. They should be renamed and hold their rallies and victory parades in New Jersey. And it's weird that Bloomberg and Paterson are ignoring that. Or maybe it's just politics as usual, trying to get support from any quarter. Even football fans.
