- Hooray for Chesley Sullenberger III, the US Airways pilot whose skill and calm turned what could have been a tragedy yesterday into a moment of rare relief and heroism. Hooray also for all the first responders and ferry boat pilots whose worked quickly to bring the people on that plane to shore safely. Jsut this once, everybody lives!! (PS: A co-worker was on that flight. No word yet on how she's doing, aside from alive.)

- Smallville, featuring the live action debut of the Legion of Super-Heroes was fun, but not exactly good. I liked the large number of winks to the fans, but I wonder if viewers unfamiliar with the Legion were confused. The actors playing Rokk and Garth were very good, the actress playing Imra was wooden. There were also moments that the script was clearly written by Geoff Johns, which means that some bits were great and others were a little stiff. What works in comic book dialogue isn't perfect on TV. Still, as fan service goes, this one did the job well. Long Live the Legion!

The latter, guest starring a DC war comics character that most fans wouldn't know well, was very good and shows that Dan Jurgens can still write. As well as draw, since the art was great.

- Lastly, regarding Final Crisis 6, in case you missed it...Read more... )

You might not know the name Andrew Wyeth. But odds are you know this painting.

In case you didn't know his work, or didn't know that he was perhaps the most polarizing American artist of his day, here is an extensive obituary by NY Times chief art critic Michael Kimmelman.
