So every so often, I get out my tape of Star Trek II. It's still got as many plot holes as it ever did, and some really clumsy FX and some really cheesy acting.

And I still love it. It's Kirk's finest moment and Spock's finest moment. It's a vision of Starfleet that set the tome for the rest of the films and even for the TV shows to follow (as much as Roddenberry didn't care for it). It's got a great battle or two, some really heartwrenching scenes, and an amazing soundtrack. And it's the original series amped up just enough to make it a movie without being bloated.

And I love the script. Some of it is silly, some of it witty, a little of it profound. And like Jason Nesmith watching Galaxy Quest, I sit there and recite along with Kirk, Spock, Khan and Bones.

I've seen thi sfilm about 20 times. It's far from the greatest film ever made. But it's still my favorite movie.
