Today is a good day for birthdays.

It's [livejournal.com profile] chlorrel's birthday! It's also [livejournal.com profile] steahl's birthday! So I wish both of you the happiest of days, and hope that your troubles fade and your triumphs blossom in the year to come!

But beyond that, it's my mother's 65th birthday. Honestly, she doesn't look it, or act it. She doesn't read this, but it's still worth noting, since she is my mother.

Thing is, since it's always been my mother's birthday, I can tell you off the top of my head who else has a birthday today. (I used to look such things up.) For example, it's Jimmy Carter's birthday. And Julie Andrews'. As a kid, I used to think it was cool that my mother shares her birthday with these people. I only share my birthday with Ed Asner.

Now, I think it's a lot cooler that she shares it with friends. (As do I, but that's a post for next month.)

So, as a Mets fan, I'm supposed to be heartbroken and besides myself. As noted, I am not happy my team fell apart. And most of you know how big a Mets fan I am. But it's just a game. It's not like this means anything more than my team fell apart.

But tell that to the media. I get that it's a big sports story. For now. Till the playoffs start later in the week. It's not a news story. Really. And I am not heartbroken.

So can the media please get over it?
