You might have missed this. But Daylight Savings Time starts earlier this year, and for the foreseeable future. It begins on the second Sunday in March. This year, that's March 11.

Which means that if you are Jewish and going to Lunacon, Shabbos will begin at 6:45 pm. Great if you need to get to the con and want extra time. Not so great if you were counting on being at that 8 pm panel. Or if your concert was scheduled for 7 pm because it was start after Shabbos was over.

This change in the law happened rather quietly, and I can't understand why Congress thought it was necessary. The global economy and the Internet are going on 24/7 and I don't think we use electricity the same way we did thirty years ago. But this seems to be Congress' way of pretending they did something to save energy.
