Free Things to Do in NYC
Jun. 2nd, 2004 12:23 pm1. Next Tuesday, June 8, is the annual Musuem Mile Festival. All the museums between 82nd Street and 105th Street - including the Met, the Guggenheim, and The Jewish Museum - are open for free from 6 to 9 pm, and Fifth Avenue is closed to traffic.
If you come, look for me roaming the avenue with our photographer, or standing at the JM watching over the klezmer band that plays there every year.

2. This year, Shakespeare in the Park will present Much Ado About Nothing from June 22 to August 7 (which is oddly a Saturday). The price can't be beat, but the casting leaves a lot to be desired from my POV. Why? Because Benedick will be played by Jimmy Smits and Beatrice by Kristen Johnston. Two years back, both of these performers appeared in Twelfth Night, neither being particularly impressive. I cannot see either doing justice to these demanding and fairly subtle key roles. There are some other names in the play, such as Sam Waterson, but I cannot say I am too enthusiastic about a Much Ado with the wrong B&B. Still, there is time to have my expectations confirmed or dashed.

(The web site for the Public has less info than it should about the casting - I found that in a googlesearch.)
