Snow Day? No Way!
Jan. 28th, 2004 09:22 am- Last night, the city announced almost before the snow started that the schools would be closed. That gets one's hopes up for a well-needed snow day. But the storm was not nearly that bad, and getting to work was actually eaiser than usual. But now millions of parents have kids who got an unnnecesary day off and nothing to do with them. Sometimes planning ahead prematurely is worse than not planning at all.
- I see from a few other posts that it is Stakebait's birthday. So I shall join in the happy chorus (despite not keeping track of such tihngs as well as I ought to). May your birthday be filled with lots of good things and warm drinks and stuff.
- Johnny Depp got nominated for Pirates. How cool is that? No, he won't win, but for an actor in a comedy, an action film, or a fantasy to be recognized is rare, and this film counts for all three. Then again, it is a costume drama as well, and Oscar loves those.
- Guess it's time to start thinking about what Kerry stands for, isn't it? I think that he is now the frontrunner, God help him, but that it's far from over. I suspect that Dean will come back, and that Edwards' run in the south will muddle things. Lieberman, however, is done for. His only meagre hope is that the Jewish vote in Florida and New York will help him, and I think that Jews don't really vote that way anymore.
- Just saw something a bit freaky. Yesterday wa the anniversary of the Apollo I tragedy (commemorated by JPL announcing it was naming three hills on Mars for Chaffee, White and Grissom). Today is the anniversary of the Challenger accident. Sunday is the first anniversary of the Columbia accident. How very odd that all three times American astronauts have died, it was pretty much at the same time of year.
