Happy Spring Hoildays
Apr. 15th, 2003 02:29 pmBeen a while since I've posted, and there is too much to say and too little time, so I'll get to the highlights...
- At some point, I will say something about the war, but that requires time and thought. Suffice it to say, I still can't make heads or tails of how it's played out so far, and that I think it's not over but that it's also not in a form that I recognize well enough to talk about.
- Passover is almost upon them's of us that's Jewish, and Easter is just about here for them's that's Christian, so I'm happy to take this moment to wish everyone a happy holiday of your choice. If these won't do, there's also Earth Day - remember the environment, anyone? - and even NFL Draft Day for football fans. Anything I'm missing.
Anyway, I hope that this season of holidays that celebrate freedom or rebirth inspires us to seek freedom and to seek renewal in a world so needing of both.
- If you don't see my name 'round here muchly, it's because the holidays are taking me away from my Internet. aside from all the days when I can't use the computer, we will be away from home. First is a few days by Mom for seders and whatnot. Then on Sunday, God willing, it's off to Atlanta for a week by Batya's aunt and uncle (with her parents and grandparents as well). So evenif I can get online, I won't have much time to keep up with my e-mail and my boards and LJ.
So while I'm away, behave yourselves! :)
- To our friends in Atlanta, we wish we had the time to get together with you, but it looks like it will be a week of familial obligations even when it's not holiday time. (Never mind that we would make the worst guest possible on Passover, what with us being unable to eat just anything not certified Kosher for Passover.) Hopefully, we will be able to swing getting back to the land of peachtrees for GaFilk.
If any Atlantans or frequent visitors have any ideas for what a tourist with one full day and two half-days to sightsee should do, please make some recommendations.
- Got some good reading lined up, I hope. Just finishing Stephen King's "Four Past Midnight" - not great King for the most part, but loved "the Langoliers." Will be bringing "Lake Wobegon Days," EL Doctorow's first novel, a Western of all things; a Richard Stark novel; a book by Stanford White's granddaughter about living in his shadow (if you saw or read "Ragtime," you should recall the story of White and Evelyn Nesbitt); and a newly released trade paperback reprint of the Marvel Masterworks edition of the first eleven issues of Spider-Man c. 1962-63. This last item is a Barnes & Noble exclusive, and while not quite the bargain that the Essentials series is, it's in color and on nice paper.
I should have something to say about some of these after vacation. Till then, have a happy, and don't spoil Angel for me, as we'll be waaay behind by the time we get home. :)
