Pirates 5, Superman 2?
Jul. 9th, 2006 07:54 amIn the two days since the new Pirates film opened, I have seen at least five comments about it on my F-list. In the elven days since Superman Returns opened, I have seen two.
I wonder if this confirms my sense that no matter how iconic Superman is, he just doesn't resonate that much anymore. People are just not as interested in him as in a charming rogue. Is it because Supes is outdated? Because there have been too many Sueprman films and TV shows? Is it that Jack Sparrow is still something new and that Johnny Depp is a bigger draw than an unknwon actor channeling Chris Reeve? Or it is that the new movie just isn't that exciting and leaves people with little to say?
Any thoughts?

I'm lazy, what can I say. Here, have a Clark icon.

Date: Jul. 9th, 2006 01:50 pm (UTC)That said, I was highly disappointed in Pirates - what it did, it did well, but it was missing the coherent and (within its own rules) believable plot of the first.

Date: Jul. 10th, 2006 02:36 am (UTC)I don't think it was the "channeling Chris Reeve" or that he's outdated so much as the "Oy, with the Christ!Superman already." ("For Jor-El so loved the world..."*snerk* Sorry.) But Spacey as Luthor? Totally pwns.
I agree with the comment about PotC:DMC lacking the believeable (for certain very loose definitions of "believeable") plot of the first, but...well, it's my Johnny. And Orlando. And Kiera. And my...*squees over the ending*
