No Olympics for NYC?

I say hooray! I dislike the IOC. I dislike the jingoism. I dislike the commericialism. I hate the amount of money cities are expected to spend on limited use facilities. I despised the plans for Flushing Meadows Park. I hated the idea of two weeks of pereptual traffic and security checks that would have made the nonsense of last year's Republican convention look tame.

I am very relieved. And I think many New Yorkers feel this way, even if most also would have cheered NYC getting the games.

Excellent. I've been dreading the prospect.

Well, I'm all for jingoism and commercialism, but I agree with all your other objections. I'd be perfectly happy to be all jingoistic and commercial about, say, Boston or Philadelphia. Just NIMBY, thank you.

Hey, we had the Democratic convention! Let some other city get a turn at being overrun with security mania. Or better still, hold the Olympics in Lost Gulch, Kansas, where they won't bother a lot of people.
