My Fannish Ways Exposed

So, ten mintes ago, I made a silly mistake in the office. And I let loose with a heaerty "Frell!" After explaining my mistake to my co-worker, she asked me was that word was.

So I told her it was from Farscape. And then told her what Farscape was.

I don't hide my fannish roots too much at work. But it's rare when I show any co-worker just how far gone I am.

Never mind that while I freely use the word "frell" I never use the Anglo-Saxon word it replaces. But that is a post for another day.

You could have just (fairly honestly) said it was your word to replace the F word the same way some people say gosh darn it or fracking.

I once used "nutbunnies!" in a non-fannish environment and then had a lot of explaining to do. It might have even been at work.

I use "frell" a lot, and now I have "frack" to join it, from Battlestar Galactica.

I think I win...er...something. Woot! *does the dance of I-hooked-my-friends-on-Farscape*

Battlestar Galactica has now given me "Frak" to add to "Nutbunnies" and "Frell." (At my workplace, "frell" surprises no one at all. "Nutbunnies" gets a lot of stares, though).

I used "frellage" at my former job and then had to explain it to another employee - the head of the nursery school. I didn't bother telling her where it was from, figuring that pointing out its advantages (if a kid hears it and then repeats it at home, no one gets in trouble) was good enough.

Btw, where is "nutbunnies" from?

I use Legion swear words (nass, drek, sprock, grife, grummy, squaj... it goes on and on) way too often. But this is less me and more the fact that I have two characters in the bar who use Legion words on a daily basis, so I've had to get used to unconsciously calling on them. An unfortunate side effect of character bleedthrough.
