Things on a Friday
May. 13th, 2005 09:47 am1. It's Friday the 13th. And we are not being subjected to a new film in that series. Yay!
2. I see from my f-list that today is maedbh7's birthday. Happy birthday!!
3. According to Mark Waid and Brian Augustyn's Life Story of the Flash, today is the birthday of my favorite Silver Age hero, Barry Allen. How to celebrate? Well, you could go to the milliways_bar RPG here at LiveJournal (where, as I've noted, I RP Barry) and see what kinds of gifts his friends get him. Or you could dig through your comic collection and look for stories featuring this long-dead hero. Or try finding a copy of Marv Wolfman's novelization of Crisis on Infinite Earths, where Barry plays a major role.
Or you could just go jogging.
4. Today is the last episode of Enterprise. And I have no interest in seeing how it ends. Given that the ending this show is the beginning of the rest, it doesn't matter anyway. And if I really want to see Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis in their Next Gen TV uniforms, I can just watch an old episode.
The thrill is totally gone. Oh, I still love the old shows. I can even watch a rerun of Voyager from time to time. But Enterprise only succeeded in running the ideas into the ground.
5. Oddly, I AM interested in Episode III. OK, I am on record as having liked a lot of Episode II, so this shouldn't be a surprise. But as the day comes closer, and the advance reviews are fairly positive, I am less of a "of course I'll see it, but only for closure" mind and more of a "this could be fun" mind. Still not expecting great cinema, or even a great Star Wars film. But I am optimistic.
6. Without going into details, I will say that the finale of Veronica Mars was satisfying on an emotional level, showcased the cast very well, and did everything it needed do. It was not, however, a perfect ending to a season-long mystery. Not a bad ending by any stretch, but it could have been better.
7. Lost hasn't been as pleasing of late. The flashbacks are getting less interesting, and I think the additional three hours of story ABC ordered have led JJ Abrams and crew to pad out what they planned before the order. Again, not a bad show by any stretch, but the seams are showing for the first time. I hope the last two episodes answer at least some questions.
